Naomi Klein’s eighth book, How to Change Everything: A Young Human’s Guide to Protecting the Planet and Each Other is her first book written specifically for young readers. Along with Rebecca Steffof, she adapts over twenty years of reporting and research on climate change and the movements that are trying to stop it. Young readers will find stories and information that they can use on their journeys to create a better future. A global movement is already underway to combat not only the environmental effects of climate change but also to fight for climate justice and make a fair and livable future possible for everyone. And young people are not just part of that movement, they are leading the way! Young leaders are showing the world that this moment of danger is also a moment of great opportunity—an opportunity to change everything for the better.

OPINIE i DYSKUSJE
At first, it seemed to me that ‘How To Change Everything’ was a book I won’t get a lot out of, that it was only a call for the not-knowing about climate change and those not engaged in the matter. But then, after the chapter ‘Kids Take Action’ I started to completely change my mind. Having read the book from cover to cover I understood the author’s approach and the language, directed towards the young.
‘How To Change Everything’ is a powerful call for kids and young adults to take matters into their own hands. Klein links the causes and the effects of climate change very well, showing it’s not a future problem, but it’s series of events occurring now all around the world, and just getting started. The author raises the issue of colonialism, capitalism and climate (in)justice, proving how the ‘profit before people’ thinking has been destroying our planet. She brilliantly puts data and real climate change-related stories into a meaningful appeal to change the status quo.
The book ends with some clues on how to change the world. Klein shows that it’s systemic changes that shape our future, and gives advice how to drive and demand them. But at the same time following the examples of young activists about whom she told stories throughout the book, Naomi Klein shows that we, the young, do have the power to change the world. Change it the way we want, into a greener, fairer and more equal world for all.
