What did this book do to me? I probably cried about 90% of the time - it was so unfair and crushing. It's a wonderful story about forbidden love and lack of choice.

Ary is eighteen years old and only remembers the last year of her life. Her father and brother were murdered, and her mother abandoned her some time later, so she was left alone. One day her life changes - her former friend returns with four men who are complete strangers to her - one of them saves her from the wolf. It turns out that Ary is the daughter of a man with magic, and she has it herself. According to the prophecy, her task is to save the world from a sorcerer who uses black magic. But that's not all, she also has to marry the commander she’s been promised to - a man with big army. And then there's this man, her savior - Smyth - who knows things about her he shouldn't, who is possessive and protective of her.

The plot is good, but also very sad. There are many secrets to this story that we slowly uncover. There are several plot twists - some I easily predicted, but others completely surprised me.

Ary is sweet, shy and inexperienced. One event deprives her of the choice as to what kind of life she wants to lead and who she can be with.

Gavin Smyth, our MMC is mysterious, protective and strong. Him and his mouth - he says things that make your heart start beating faster. And his actions speak for themselves - what kind of man he is.

The romance is a really slow-burn with so much tension and longing. They share a special bond – both are capable of making great sacrifices for the good of their loved one. My heart broke as I watched their interactions because their love was forbidden due to Ari's obligations.

The ending is just as devastating as the rest of the book - I have a faint hope that the author will give us more happy scenes in the next book and we will see the development of Ary and Gavin's relationship without throwing more obstacles in their way.
