Martin Gilbert

sir Martin John Gilbert - brytyjski historyk. Przyszedł na świat w Londynie, w rodzinie pochodzenia żydowskiego. Jako 10-letni chłopiec na 5 miesięcy przed zakończeniem wojny został wysłany do Kanady (akcja ochrony dzieci przed nalotami samolotów niemieckich). Przed studiami służył 2 lata w wojsku. Absolwent Uniwersytetu Oksfordzkiego (historia). Zasłynął przede wszystkim z prac biograficznych poświęconych Winstonowi Churchillowi. Zajmował się także tematyką Holokaustu i współczesną historią Żydów oraz ogólnie historią pierwszej połowy XX w., ze szczególnym naciskiem na obie wojny światowe. Nie należy go mylić z Martinem Gilbertem (ur. 1955),brytyjskim biznesmenem, współzałożycielem grupy inwestycyjnej Aberdeen Asset Management.
